Precious places

The Southern Beaches is a beautiful but fragile and very dry area. Since 1991 our volunteer members have established local bush reserves and worked to protect precious coastal habitat in partnership with Sorell Council, NRM South, Parks & Wildlife Service, Crown Land Services, local schools and residents:

  • SBLC 2016 April wb Mieka Marina trailerPayeena Reserve on Carlton Beach Road, Dodges Ferry
  • Parnella Reserve on Carlton Beach Road, Dodges Ferry
  • Casurina Reserve on East Street, Dodges Ferry
  • Samuel Thorne Reserve on Lewisham Scenic Drive, Lewisham
  • Jacks Flat Reserve on Old Forcett Road, Forcett
  • Spectacle Islands Nature Reserve
  • Beach access paths, steps, planting and signage at Carlton Beach, Carlton River, Park Beach, Red Ochre Beach, Samuel Thorne Reserve, Primrose Sands and Connelly’s Marsh
  • Wetlands and saltmarshes at Blue Lagoon and Okines Beach at Dodges Ferry, Townsends Lagoon at Lewisham, Carlton River and Primrose Sands

We’ve researched and developed many strategies in conjunction with Sorell Council and the Parks & Wildlife Service, including the Foreshore Access Management Strategy in 2002 and drafted the Dodges Ferry Recreation Reserve Action Plan in 2009.
